Dear Mr. ######,

The Tunisian Astronomical Society issued a press release on this matter. You can find it here
As it's written in Arabic, Here's a brief traduction:

Scientific research in the field of physics, astronomy and space is a field in which nations are racing to present important discoveries and applications to all mankind and an opportunity for these nations to prove their progress and control over these fields.

While many countries have taken important steps in this field, notably Morocco, Algeria, Nigeria, Ethiopia and Mozambique, specially South Africa, India, China, Russia, the European Union and the United States. It is alleged that a research refutes the spherical earth and the rotation of the earth around the sun and the movement of the moon and the earth and the regions of the stars and their dimensions and orbits of the planets, exposing all the theories that have been confirmed and participated in the crystallization throughout history many of the great scientists, including Arabs and Muslims Including Al-Biruni and Al-Tusi and Al-Sari and Ibn Al-Shater.

While we were waiting for research on a geophysical framework or planetology, because the two researchers are geologists with a primitive framework dating back at least 3,000 years.
And it was better before going into such topics that do not rise to the level of research to consult the specialists in physicists, astronomers, researchers, academics and scientific societies.

This incident that gives bad image of the higher education in particular, and our country in general, is the result of several accumulations start from school and end of the university, We must identify the causes of the imbalance and treatment.
The Tunisian Astronomical Society therefore proposes the following:
1- Revisiting the physics and astronomy programs in secondary education, especially by reviving them and furnishing them with practical lessons that reflect the scientific facts of the students about the earth and the universe.
2- Reviewing the process of accepting theses in order to reject their form if they are in flagrant contradiction with the scientific facts.
3- The establishment of a university pole in the field of astronomy and space to be considered the cornerstone for any research.
Finally, the association calls on all concerned parties and ministries and national institutions involved in the above mentioned points to cooperate together to advance our country in this field and to defend our university institutions and to remain vigilant for all intruders who reject their constructive views and to return to the path of science and Knowledge.

Best,
Zaher Mahdhi
